$42.5 million CAPEX
173 jobs
Project Cruiser/Zeus
The Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah) and the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) are pleased to announce that Carvana plans to open an Inspection and reconditioning center in Tooele City, and to add 173 new high-paying jobs in the state in the next seven years. The company projects capital expenditures of $42.5 million associated with the expansion, and hundreds of additional jobs are anticipated as the company ramps up.
“Carvana has changed the car-buying experience, especially during a worldwide pandemic,” said Dan Hemmert, GOED’s executive director. “This expansion will allow the company to serve the state and the Southwest region better as well as create almost 200 jobs. We wish Carvana the best success as they continue to grow.”
Carvana is a national, leading online auto retailer, offering a 100% online car-buying and selling experience. The expansion project was managed by site selectors Tracey Bosman and Blake McArthur at Biggins Lacy & Shapiro Company of Chicago.
The GOED Board has approved a post-performance tax credit not to exceed $757,736. Each year that Carvana meets the criteria in its contract with the state, it will earn a portion of the total tax credit.
“Carvana is a great win for Tooele City and the State of Utah,” said Theresa A. Foxley, president and CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah. “Economic Development is always a team sport and so many public and private partners were responsible for getting this project across the goal line. We’re thrilled about the Team Utah win and what Carvana’s significant investment in workforce development means for our community.”
Erin Farr, senior business development manager, led this project for EDCUtah.
