The Milken Institute has published their Best-Performing Cities Index for 2021, and five Utah metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) are in the Top Ten (large and small categories).

Provo-Orem takes the #1 spot in Milken's Best-Performing Large Cities ranking on the strength of job, wage, and high-tech GDP growth (up from #2 in 2020).

Salt Lake City takes #4 (up from #25 in 2020).

Ogden-Clearfield is #9 (up from #22 in 2020).

In the Small Cities category, Logan is #2 (up from #3 in 2020) and St. George is #4 (unchanged from 2020).

The 2021 version of the index emphasizes jobs, wages, and high-tech growth while incorporating new measures of housing affordability and household broadband access.
