2006-07 - EDCUtah Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary with Another Big Year

In 2006-07, EDCUtah celebrated its twentieth anniversary with another year of sustained economic growth in Utah. The organization coordinated a record 113 corporate site visits, up 48 from the previous two years. EDCUtah also provided assistance to 28 companies looking to relocate or expand to Utah, as well as six local companies looking to grow within the state. These efforts resulted in 5,570 new committed jobs, 840 retained jobs, 2.6 million square feet absorbed, and $884.9 million in committed capital investment. EDCUtah’s membership base also grew, adding 35 new investors for a total of 235.

During 2006-07, EDCUtah introduced several new programs to further spur economic growth in Utah communities. The first version of the Public Development Department was established to support Utah communities in their economic development efforts and facilitate interactions between EDCUtah public partners and the Business Development team. The Public Development team managed the official launch of the SURE (Select Utah Real Estate) Sites program, which quickly proved to be a valuable tool for economic development efforts in the state. The program created a database of available real estate throughout the state and provided users with site specific information. In this first year, 31 sites were certified.

Since its inception 20 years prior, EDCUtah projects brought just over 56,000 new and retained jobs to the state. EDCUtah also hosted a grand total of 1,274 site visits and celebrated 270 project wins.

As EDCUtah celebrates its thirty year anniversary in 2016-17, we look back on the 34 project wins of the 2006-07 fiscal year and recognize that 27 of the 34 companies our organization worked with that year continue to do business in Utah. These companies’ continued presence in the state is reflective of EDCUtah’s commitment to existing business in Utah and the state’s ability to retain business long term. We look forward to the next 20 years of bringing businesses to our great state
