2003-04 - Another Busy Year for EDCUtah (17 of 30)
EDCUtah had another busy year between expansion and retention projects, information referrals, and profile creations. EDCUtah helped a total of 99 Utah companies with their plans to expand in Utah in addition to their employee retention plans. Another 77 Utah based companies were referred to the Research team for information regarding financial resources, real estate, Custom Fit Training, small business development, and employment resources. The company also saw an increase in the number of corporate headquarter relocation announcements from the previous year. Also in the 2003-04 fiscal year, eleven different companies announced their plans to relocate their headquarters to Utah. The majority of these companies were in the manufacturing and distribution industry, while other companies offered business services.
The research team also had a busy year, working on county and industry profiles. The team began to develop an economic profile for each of Utah’s 29 counties plus the Wasatch Front. By the end of the year, profiles for Cache, Davis, Salt Lake, Summit, Tooele, Wasatch, Washington, and Weber counties, as well as the four-county region of the Wasatch Front had been created. These profiles, rather than focusing on targeted industries, detailed the economy and unique aspects of each county. Each profile highlighted local and national businesses located in the county, representatives from local municipalities, and an overview of the economic development efforts of the community. They provided local representatives and companies with a brief overview of each county to aid recruitment efforts. The research team also revised EDCUtah’s computer software/ internet, biotechnology, and manufacturing industry profiles.
