Event Summary - St. George Economic Summit
EDCUtah recently held a reception in Southern Utah at The Entrada Country Club that coincided with the St. George Area Economic Summit. The event was a success for Utah on many levels. World Trade Center Utah, one of EDCUtah’s partners from Salt Lake, joined as a co-sponsor at the event, which provided a great opportunity for both parties to reach a more varied audience. Mike Flynn, Chief Operating Officer at EDCUtah, reported on the 2016 fiscal year, highlighting new projects and site visits that occurred. Derek Miller, President and CEO of World Trade Center Utah spoke and presented the numbers for Utah 2016 exports as well as the successes won in the previous year. It was great exposure due to the wide range of attendees which included everyone from real estate developers, to city managers, to mayors.
The St. George Area Economic Summit was held the next day at the Dixie Convention Center. There were over a thousand in attendance, covering a wide spectrum of companies. In addition, it was a great opportunity for people in Northern Utah to network with people in Southern Utah. There were excellent keynote speakers including Pat Jones, former member of the Utah Senate, who spoke on behalf of the Women’s Leadership Institute. John Pike also updated the participants on the entrepreneurship happening in St. George.
The event resulted in a valuable opportunity to meet with great partners and share information. “Utah’s success is spread throughout the state as evidenced by the economic summit,” says Flynn. Working with a partner this year helped expand the attendance at the event and added more content for the business community in Southern Utah. Next year, EDCUtah will look to potentially bring more of our economic development stakeholders from the Wasatch Front in an attempt to continue to make the event as valuable as possible.
