1996 - Two Industry Profiles Created to Highlight Growing Utah Industries (10 of 30)
To celebrate EDCUtah's 30th anniversary, the 30 Years, 30 Highlights series details major milestones in Utah's economic development.
In 1996, EDCUtah created two industry profiles to highlight the growing economic diversity and expertise in the state: Biotechnology and Software. As part of these profiles, a comprehensive list of the companies represented in the state for each industry was compiled including 300 Biotechnology and 250 Software companies.
This was the beginning of what would become a staple of EDCUtah’s marketing materials. Industry profiles would later be developed for each of the major industries for which EDCUtah recruited, and would be designed to highlight the needed data and information relocating companies and site selectors often ask.
In the early 2000’s with the election of Governor Jon M. Huntsman a study was commissioned to identify the industries or sectors where Utah had a strategic advantage. Those industries include Aerospace & Defense, Financial Services, IT & Software Development, Life Sciences, and Outdoor Products & Recreation. EDCUtah took these identified targeted industries and developed profiles for each.
In 2016, under the direction of EDCUtah COO Mike Flynn and VP of Research and Marketing Matt Hilburn, EDCUtah completed an intensive redesign of the Industry Profiles. The new profiles contain the most often requested information on each industry, beautiful imagery specific to the industry, and targeted data that gives a more accurate representation of Utah’s unique capabilities than ever before.
The new profiles can be viewed by visiting the link below, selecting an industry, and clicking on the profile in the “Key Downloads” section of the web page.
