Software and IT Industry Year in Review

The Software and IT industry in Utah is thriving throughout the state. Utah cities have been featured in big name publications and several of Utah’s startups are well-known national companies. Here are some of the highlights in the industry from 2016:

  • SoFi, a disruptive FinTech company from San Francisco, announced plans for a 400-seat regional office in Utah. Their $8M investment will allow them to take advantage of Utah’s excellent talent base in both IT and financial services.

  • Peek, an innovative online marketplace for adventure travel, announced its new regional office in Sandy, Utah. The project will create 100 new jobs and bring $3 million in investment to Utah. The company combines IT and outdoor recreation, both of which are key strengths for Utah.

  • Lucid, a home-grown, cloud-based technology company, announced plans for a 300-seat expansion in Utah. Their success is further evidence that Utah’s Silicon Slopes can both incubate and scale major IT players.

  • HealthEquity, a Utah-based FinTech company, announced its 2nd Utah expansion in 12 months. They’ll add 100 jobs in rural Price, Utah in addition to the 200-seat expansion they’re already adding to their Draper, Utah headquarters.

  • Utah’s IT and software sector continued to receive national recognition in the media. Adweek highlighted Utah’s tech innovation and self-sufficiency, while CNBC explained why Utah’s Silicon Slopes are rising to rival Silicon Valley, with lower tax rates, lower cost of living, and excellent quality of life.

  • EDCUtah published a new Information Technology profile, highlighting Utah’s major IT & software employers, centers of excellence, cost profiles, incentives, and more.
